Boutique Hotel

Nestled within the busy Central Business District of downtown Singapore, the team was asked to develop a proposal for a boutique hotel on the uniquely shaped site. With the steep terrain and thin trapezoidal planning area, the proposal was limited by conservation guidelines, varying height restrictions and other planning restrictions. The team opted to work with the randomness of the requirements by terracing each guest suite and creating an interesting elevation to the hilly site. An architectural style that embraces the strong traditional Chinese architectural influence was also adopted to add to the urban language found in the shop houses that dominates the surrounding areas. The corridor spaces were also envisioned as alleyways allowing each suite to have its own balcony that overlooked into the alley, a la “Old Singapore” before the nation’s rapid urbanisation.
