Flamingo Observation Tower

Calling for a new observation tower that would allow visitors to the Al Wathba Wetland Reserves to view the migratory birds from afar, the brief for this competition spelled out strict guidelines to achieve a sustainable solution that would also be accessible to wheelchair users and other visitors with limited mobility. The proposal submitted by the team mimics the flamingo’s form, taking inspiration from the most populous species of migratory birds and the main draw of the Reserve. With three repeated forms of the accessible pathway revolving around a single spiral stair core, the proposal provides three main viewing platforms to allow visitors to observe the birds across a large expense of the wetlands.
