Langit Tower, Malaysia

By combining local architectural characteristics with the present-day identity of the developing city, the tower’ radiates culture and progress in its design. With its facade resembling fragments of time, two major characteristics of the building are formed: the traditional style that is seen on the building’s core which represents the heart and core values of the indigenous people; and with a modern style on the glass facade that, like clouds, wrap around the building. The glass facade also reflects the current status of the city’s surroundings – emerging and continuously progressing.

The overall design is a balance of how even though the younger generations are influenced by global culture, their roots remain the same. The traditional core values of the indigenous culture, if we peel away the exterior, is still present at the center.

The symbolism in the building exterior creates a harmony of Kuching’s identity, it also addresses current issues about sustainability through the integration of green building solutions. By creating openings on strategic levels of the building, light and air ventilation are achieved. These recessed levels have two primary purposes: First, it allows for a provision of a garden area, thus, increasing the greeneries above ground level that results in improved indoor air quality; Second, sun shading is achieved on key areas to optimize interior cooling.
